Christina Rivera is a Pushcart Prize-winning essayist from Colorado whose girlhood was bordered by coastlines of Pacific Ocean. Her work has appeared in Orion Magazine, The Cut, Kenyon Review, River Teeth, Terrain.org, and more. Rivera’s debut book, MY OCEANS: Essays of Water, Whales, and Women (Northwestern University Press, March ‘25) was longlisted for the 2022 Graywolf Press Prize, a finalist for the Siskiyou Prize for New Environmental Literature, and includes the John Burroughs Nature Essay Award Winner for 2023—the highest annual honor for a creative nonfiction essay on place, science, and the environment. Before pursuing her writing career, Christina worked for sixteen years in the field of international experiential education in various roles including Communications Director, Princeton University Bridge Year Programs Director, and Digital & Social Media Director.
