María José Fitzgerald is a storyteller from Honduras. Her cuentos usually include friendships, conservation, family, and a sprinkle of magic and mystery. She grew up snorkeling and hiking in Central America, where nature and culture nourished her soul. Her debut novel, Turtles of the Midnight Moon, was the 2024 Green Earth Book Award Children's Fiction Winner. It was selected as an Indie’s Next and Indie’s Introduces pick for Winter 2023 and was awarded an International Latino Book Award Honor. Maria is an active member of Las Musas, and she has participated in various national and local book festivals and conferences. When she’s not writing, you can find her teaching, reading, relaxing on the couch with her family, a book, and their furry canines, or maybe out on a bike ride.
